I was excited to be accepted to present at ASCD’s Empower 19 Conference. It is always great fun and great learning when I am working with Dr. Deirdre Williams. We had a great response from the reviews and were able to connect to other educators focused on equity.
I was so honored to have been awarded the Inspirational Woman Award by the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence at Lamar University. The nominees were all accomplished and quality group of woman that I was happy to be associated with. It was a wonderful experience and I truly appreciate everyone who has supported me in my career journey.
I had a wonderful time participating in a substantive panel discussion about equity and the effects of Brown v. Board of Education. Then educators shared their research on how to move the needle for black children. It was a powerful time spending space with people truly dedicated to see black children realize their true potential. Please check out the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators and all they do for children.
I would like to express how excited I was to work with the teachers and leaders in Alamo Heights. They have an amazing team with hearts for kids. The conversations were focused on student growth, equity, new mindsets. I am encouraged to see how they will finish out this semester ensuring their students are given every opportunity to succeed and thrive.
The 2018 Fall Meeting for the School Reform Initiative was a great learning experience. Dr. Brown was a facilitator for a learning group and presented her framework in a break out session. The networking, reflection and growth around racial equity was unmatched!
